The Year of the Barbadian Writer!

The following is a review post from Ask the Nation - Barbados blog on Serenity Cove
My fellow loyal sons and daughters of Barbados,  the Barbadian Diaspora and lovers of Barbados worldwide ...
This year, in the year of Our Lord 2011 we declare 'the year of the Barbadian writer'.  Over the past few years our singers, songwriters and musicians have gained popularity on the international stage.   Now is the time for our literary geniuses to get their just rewards.
We commence with a new comer to the Barbadian literary arts scene:  Cherylann Greene and her two-year old book Serenity Cove.  We are looking forward for more books and great things from this writer this year and beyond.  This romantic novel is Christian-based but don't let the word 'Christian' fooled you.  This page-turner is everything and more that you would come to expect from a romance novel and has gained positive reviews around the island.

Quick Overview

Serenity Cove is set in the Caribbean, between the islands of Dominica and Barbados.  The novel’s two main characters Jonathan and Sandy met in Dominica, where Sandy was vacationing and the story continues on in Barbados.
These two people were complete opposites in terms of personality and race (still a touchy topic in Barbados).  Sandy was a young, driven, black Barbadian woman with a stubborn personality with a few insecurities and Jonathan was a very handsome, easy-going white Barbadian-Canadian man with some issues of his own.  Sandy's friend Marky and the other exciting characters you would meet in the book is reminiscent to a box of assorted Cadbury chocolates (let your imagination go wild at that metaphor - enough said).
In addition to the link on the image above, this novel is also available in Barbados at Gospel Connections and Things Gospel stores island-wide.  Barbados, go out and show your support and telling the world how we do it '100% Bajan'.

Serenity Cove - Overview

Serenity Cove is a gripping romantic novel that is set solely in the Caribbean and the story goes back and forth between the islands of Dominica and Barbados. Sandy and Jonathan, the novel’s two central characters met at the fictitious Serenity Cove Hotel in Dominica, where Sandy was vacationing from her highly stressful business, and where Jonathan was one of the hotel’s managers. The attraction was immediate but their fire and ice personalities would put that attraction to the test.

Sandy was a young, driven, black Barbadian woman with a volatile and stubborn personality that tapered and matured over time, yet insecurities still lingered. Jonathan was a white Canadian man with rich Barbadian ancestry (Barbadian/Canadian). He is a very handsome, laid-back, easy-going guy yet passively aggressive when it came to claiming what he wants from life.

Cherylann Greene, the author, made this novel extra interesting by bending the rules of courtship and defied the status quo as laid down by the powers that be in Christian circles.  These two strong personalities had to overcome their racial differences and faulty personality traits - making the story uniquely theirs.

You would also fall in love with Sandy’s best friend Marky, whose personality is sunshine with a dash of cold, harsh reality checks. Jonathan’s grandparents and an unexpected visit from his mother and an ex-girlfriend, adds to the twists and turns of this incredible novel.
